UNIQUE EAST AFRICAN GENETICS

Our East African Breeding Program

Bentel Buffalo started with a vision and a dream shared between father and son duo - Hilary and Jonathan Bentel.
A shared passion for wildlife and conservation set the foundation for what is today a thriving wildlife farming operation.
Bentel Buffalo ensure an emphasis on not only genotype but also on phenotype. A stringent search for only the best cows was undertaken from diverse East African and Madikwe gene pools. Combining these females with unrelated East African breeding bulls has resulted in the over performance of their respective offspring.

CURRENT BREEDING BULLS

AmboseliB.jpg

AMBOSELI

51 2/8" Pure East African Breeding Bull

A magnificent East African 'Kenyan Bull' son displaying tremendous horn volume and future growth potential. Amboseli carries the explosive 'Kenyan Bull' genetics where his sire, the 46 5/8” 'Kenyan Bull', has produced 25% of his sons (5 out of 20) that are over the 50"+ mark. The Kenyan Bull carries a strong prepotency for horn growth where his five 50"+ sons are an astounding 5” on average bigger than their father. Amboseli is a paternal brother to 53 3/8" Ngeny, 51 6/8" Jelimo, 51"+ Kipketer, and 51" Juma (141 6/8" SCI).

GOLANI

48 5/8" Pure East African Breeding Bull

Golani was selected due to the unique horn shape, exceptional spread and limited genetic exposure in the market. Golani, like Amboseli is a bull originating from a cow that was a zoo import. The bloodline is traced to Tanzania. With a 36 inch Dam and 46 inch Sire, Golani has out performed his parents. This is imperative to breeding sustainably improved horn sizes in ones herd.
Golani has immense drops and with an impressive RW measurement of over 48 inches he provides the best of both spread and shape.

OUR BUFFALO

Showcase of Our Breeding Cows

THABA THOLO GENES

Part of our initial breeding group of cows were sourced from Thaba Tholo genes. The Thaba Tholo gene was chosen due to the numerous 50 inch plus bulls being bred from this gene pool in addition to the diversity that the gene provides.

A noticeable cow from this line is our 40 1/8 inch cow Thandeka (Red 8). Thandeka has provided us with a consistent inter calving period ( 4 Female Calves and 1 Bull Calf). She will be running with 51 inch Amboseli (Kenyan Bull son, paternal brother to 4 51 inch plus bulls)

MADIKWE GENETICS

The overperformance of the madikwe gene pool is undeniable. We hand selected all our madikwe females from a closed herd that sourced their animals directly from Madikwe. Due to the closed nature of the herd we sourced our madikwe females from, we are able to offer the stud buffalo market with unique and more importantly unrelated genetics. This is imperative to ensure overperformance and fertility in ones herd.

EAST AFRICAN/ TANZANIAN GENETICS

Large bodied, exceptional horn growth and shape is exactly what our East African Line provides. All our East African buffalo are originally zoo imports. This has enabled us to secure diverse and unrelated lines from Tanzania. Many of the countries top breeding bulls have come from the same line as our East African Line.

STACKED GENETICS

Our stacked genetics are carefully selected from the top game auctions in South Africa.

We have a strong belief in supporting the market in which we operate. We have selected females in calf to and daughters of some of the top breeding bulls in the country. Some noticeable bulls are 53" Tyson, 51 6/8" Pymat, 50"+ Simson, David, Tugela and many other industry leading bulls.

Combining these genetics with our top breeding bulls are without a doubt going to result in some of the countries best buffalo.
